Goal & Task Analysis - Choosing the Craft Brew for You

Goal Analysis

As more people become aware of the craft brewery movement, they are stepping beyond the mundane homogenized brews produced by the macrobrewers. They are learning to educate their palate to the broad variety of flavors available for their consumption. From sour to sweet, bitter to smooth, dark to light, there is a flavor to suit almost every palate or every situation. The ingredients that make up a batch of beer could be counted on the fingers of one hand, but the process of putting them together has become an exact science. By carefully adjusting the amounts of those ingredients and the times they are added to the brew, creativity can abound. Offering an indepth explanation of what makes up the each type of beer will help consumers choose the beer that suits them.

The Goal

To teach individuals the differences between 4 basic types of craft beers, the ingredients that make the variety, and how to choose a beer to please the individual palate.

Task Analysis

Between a basic IPA, Red Ale, Bock and Stout, the type and amount of ingredients you use changes the flavors dramatically. Water, grain, malt, hops and yeast are the components that make up most beers. Having a basic understanding of the ingredients and the steps that are followed to produce each of these brews helps the craftbrew newbie navigate through the flood of beers on the market today.
